A whole lotta Knitted Love

Stumbled across Nanna van Blaaderen's knitted work. I am speechless. They are beautiful and nothing short of amazing. I love to knit but I rarely have the patience to endure the countless hours you need to put in to create a simple sweater. I did make a scarf once a long time a go and it even had a intricate cable knit in it! Perhaps I should get back into it. Oh the possibilities are endless for projects. There's not enough days in the year to possibly do all these things I want to do!

Hope you are having a great week! We celebrated my friend, Elvis' 21st birthday last night and it was hilarious since he doesn't look younger than 30 nor did any of us even realized his age since we were all older. Hahaha Happy friggen Birthday, Elvis!

Say Whaaaat?

Woah guys. I saw this and flipped my lid. I said WHAAAAT? You know I'd be the first to buy this place if I only had 10.95 million dollars to throw down. Its ridiculous! hahaha. Again, whaaaaat? I mean its cool but I dunno if its 10.95 million cool.
If I had this place, I'd be giving house tours all day...sayin' things like the below. UHM. I dunno. My place is 750 sq ft. I can DIY that shizz and get a kiddie pool up in this bizz. What do you say? hahaha...

its a made well fall

So...Anticipating the Madewell x Alexa Chung collection. Last collection was so amazing I'm embarrassed to say I think I bought the entire collection except for a couple of things. I blame my wonderful and sweet husband that literally talked me into buying everything. I love him so much!
I kept thinking that I would see more girls wearing it but I haven't seen a single girl in it even though it sold out faster than radiohead tickets. (I always say that cause in all my years of concert ticket purchases, there is no one as hard to get tickets to go see than these guys. And I've seen them twice. Literally sold out within a couple of minutes. How is that even possible? TICKETMASTER... tsk tsk tsk.) ANYWAY enough blabbing on.
While I wait for the Alexa Chung collection, here is madewell's fall collection. Cuteness x 100!
Can't wait to get my hands on a few of these. What about you?

color pop:knits

A really colorful knit collection via miss moss (love her) and couldn't resist posting some from their site.
Its so fun and playful. I'm looking at it now thinking, "ugh, too hot, way too hot!" I'm sure when the nights get chilly, I'd put on one of those beanies.

I've been so busy lately and I can't seem to catch my breath to tell you all that been going on. First of all, I got to see The Flaming Lips at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery and was right up against the stage for both nights of the show and it was mind blowing and very inspiring. In fact it has made me really inspired to take on DIY projects and finish the ones from last summer. I will be posting a few on here once all the ducks are in a row.

Also been helping my husband with FIDLAR's (my brother's band) music video. Its turning out to be really crazy and time consuming. But it will all be worth it in the end.

could it be?

Yeahhhh woot woot! Finally summer weather. I sure hope its to stay. Saw this fabulous photo and had to share. Obviously not real but I totally wish Downtown LA could be turned into this so we can all avoid the hideous traffic down to the beach. So ready for Fourth of July! BBQ, friends, American flags and lots and lots of budweisers. Can't wait.

michelle armas

Completely smitten by Michelle Armas' paintings. These colors make me so happy. There is nothing that makes my heart sing when artists know how to make colors come to life. Sounds so cheesy but its so true. Being creative type, I'm big on the use of color in everything. It gets tricky with combinations and I love when I find someone that totally understands what works and it becomes such a magical thing. The colors just dance on the canvas like a party, I tell you.
Inspired. Maybe I should try my hand at painting. I used to dabble back in college. Might be another summer project to partake in. I think I might be really busy. HA!

wiksten made: summer collection

HUGE HUGE fan of wikstenmade. Designer Jenny Gordy (pictured at the table) is an extremely talented girl. She sews, she drafts her own patterns, knits, and takes pretty photos. I adore her cute style and admire her patience with sewing. There was a time when all I did was sew and I swear I would get so frustrated at times that sometimes I would have to take breaks in between projects and....well, let's just say I haven't touched the sewing machine for months. But after seeing her new summer collection, I think I need to bust that wiksten pattern I bought a while ago and have another crack at it. This summer is for sewing and DIY projects. Maybe next time I will have a drink in my other hand to keep me sane.

a BlogShop weekend

Here are a few photos from the blogshop class I took this past weekend. Smilebooth was so much fun and made a few friends along the way. If you are wanting to up your photoshop skills for your blog but don't know where to start, I really recommend this class. Bri and Angela were the best teachers and really made sure you were learning the proper steps to each skill. I was hesitant to go since I thought, "how much could I learn in just 2 days?" But boy, was I wrong. BRAIN OVERLOAD.
Blogshop: SMILEBOOTH
Blogshop: smilebooth

Angela took portraits of us and we were taught how to touch up and add things to. You can see the before and after here of the results. Such a huge difference. Adding things like grain and taking out flyaway hair. Too much fun, I tell you. BUT I never want to look perfectly photoshopped so taking it all in as a skill to put under my belt in case I need to photoshop a zit out someday. We also made gifs with our photos. I'll post mine up soon.

Another important thing we learned was properly making templates for your blog. I knew how to do this but I was doing it ALL wrong. Oh boy, their way was so much easier and I was able to make this post in a matter of minutes. Here is a quick one I made using the guidelines Bri gave us, adding texture into the mix and mulitplied circles. This is wren's summer 2011 collection by the way. Cute, right? Couldn't resist using them for this practice template.

Rode in on the GREYHOUND...

Hi guys,
Sorry. I have been horrible about updating. Been super busy! I got to see Buffalo Springfield a few nights ago and it was amazing. WOW. I love Neil Young so so much. Anyway, other than that I am taking a two day photoshop course via Design Love Fest and so far its been great. I already knew the basics but learning all these little tricks to do things way faster is definitely really helpful and fun! I will have to update with photos from my smilebooth. Can't wait to go back and learn some more tomorrow. Hope you are having a great weekend so far. Here's an outfit post.... haven't done one of these in FOREVER.

The Sophia Coppola Resort Style

I'm a huge fan of Sophia Coppola. Virgin Suicides is one of my all time favorite movies. She just knows how to capture these incredible moments. Anyway, she teamed up with Julie Libran from Louis Vuitton to create a collection that captures the effortless chic style of Sophia mixed in with parisian influence.... the result? UH PERFECTION. I am so excited to also see that my girl, Arizona Muse is rockin this collection. Over the moon with the cobalt blue here as well. Just can't get enough of it! I'll have one of each, please.

Wishing well

These are a collection of items on my wish list. Looking at it makes me feel grown up somehow. Maybe its the blazer? I never really cared for blazers that much but this one's a home run for me. I love the color, the cut, the fabric and how its already rolled up a bit. It just doesn't look too stuffy if that makes any sense... Anyways, I couldn't resist ordering the bamboo stylus pen for my ipad after seeing this inspiring post. I can't wait to actually get back to sketching again. I also bought those black flats. Its funny that I have so many shoes but I don't actually own a single plain black flat. I am not sure what happened to my other ones, probably got lost in the shoe abyss along with my brown loafers. What is on your wish list?

Street FSN: Frida Gustavsson

Huge girl crush on Frida. She's got such a doll face! This photo in particular is awesome. I think it showcases her 70s style and the fact that shes facing away from majority of the cameras makes it seem like a rock star photo. Love it!

Summer Essentials

Decided to do my own summer essentials photo (below) inspired by the Coveteur x Vogue summer get a way essentials. My photos are no where nearly as nice as theirs obviously cause I did mine very spare of the moment and had no time to really be meticulous about it. So, sorry for the quality but the items are the main star of the photos here. As I have said before, I am ready to throw in my forever 21 towel in and trade it in for quality pieces that will last me a while. This means quality over quantity. I let go of nostalgia and got rid of most of my clothes at the garage sale I had last month so, starting over feels really great especially with summer right around the corner.

Summer Essentials : Personal Style

Here is the list of things in my summer essentials:
1. A small vintage suitcase. not too big and not too small. Just perfect for a trip to palm springs. I got this one at the flea market for less than $10 and its practically new and straight out of the 60s. I love it!

Rachel Comey wedge sandals. OBSESSED with her shoes. So comfortable and great quality. I'm usually not a heels kind of girl but these are amazing. I'd wear them everywhere with shorts or a cute sun dress.

Polka dot one peice. I wanted to be different this summer and try out a one piece swimsuit and this one is super duper cute. I know it doesn't look flattering in the photo but honestly, it fits like a glove and has that 50s feel to it. This ones from Modcloth.

Light Cardigan. I think I've had this cardigan for over 5 years. I wear it all the time. Its perfect for california's weather because its light yet still able to keep you warm if you stay later at the beach. Can't remember where I got this one but my closet is full of ones from madewell and jcrew. BEST EVER.

Moroccan Oil. This does wonders for my dry hair. Its a little pricey for a hair product but I promise its worth it if your hair has been dyed a zillion times over. It makes it shiny without being too oily.

Lastly, Karen Walker Number Six sunnies. Got these as a christmas gift. Love them. They are huge and make me look like a cartoon character. hahaha

2. A hat. Think I got this one from urban last summer. Love that its sorta big brimmed and reminds me of Bob Dylan's hat when I saw him play a few years ago.

Jean cut off shorts. I've had these for 2 years and they are still hanging in there. I added my own flare with a vintage 1940s scarf I found at the flea market.

Turquoise Cuff. I got this at the flea market as well for a steal. I still try to see if I can find one for the same price range and I always get so disappointed. My mom is so great at bargaining at the flea market and I think some of that quality has passed on to me.

Rachel Comey boots. Wasn't lying when I said I was obsessed. These were a gift from the husband for our wedding anniversary a few months ago and I wear them everywhere. The leather is super soft and it survived my outing with the boys shooting guns.

Jergens natural glow lotion. I don't buy the fancy smanshy self tanners because they are all super fake. This one actually works one shade at a time so your not yellow. It also keeps me moisturized all day.

speaking of Uliana...

ah yes, Uliana. I always try to scan the fashion weeks to see what she's wearing. Always elegant and always stunning. Let's take a look see at her style. She's got quite the wardrobe if I do say so myself. Very sophisticated and chic for this russian socialite. She looks like loyalty in that red dress. wowzers!
What do you think?
In other news. Here in the home front, life isn't so grand. My husband is sick as a dog. Caught some kind of stomach flu. Poor guy. He is usually strong as an ox and I hate seeing him not being able to even stand up. If you think of it, shout out some prayers for him. I love him dearly and hoping he feels better.

Gimme that old timey feelin'

Katharine Hepburn Outfit Inspirations

clutch by Clare Vivier

Adore this image of Uliana Sergienko. She's always got the best style and knows how to work it. This particular image reminded me so much of Katharine Hepburn's style with the trousers and touch of red lipstick to glam up the look. 1940s done in a modern way, don't you think?

Also, so happy to be able to attend blogshop this month with designlovefest's Bri and photographer, Angela. Can't wait to get my learn on!
Incredible thanks to Simone Leblanc + Robin for making it happen and believing in my photoshop abilities. LOVE YOU BOTH!

Margaret Howell Collection

Goodness. Dying over that blue blouse. Its so adorable with that touch of tomboyish style that I love! Just a few items that caught my eye browsing through her newest collection. I adore her interpretations of the tailored tom boy style. Its part english school girl meets the casual feel of J Crew. Those loafers reminds me of a phase I went through in jr high where I begged to be sent to a boarding school so I could wear cute uniforms with loafers. hahaha. I was a strange kid. Such a funny thing to want. Anyway, Margaret is my home girl. She gets it. She gets me.

Guns

As promised, here are some pics from our trip up to northern california. We got to hang out with Ryan's family and his step dad took the boys shooting at the duck club so these are pictures from the outing. I was so nervous when I shot the gun and didn't realize how much power there is when you shoot it. I shot a plate! (on my 3rd try hehe) Anyway, I had lots of fun hanging out and just taking in the beautiful scenery out there. Its just so different and sometimes you need different.
