I'm so freaaaaaakin excited!

Kristen Wiig
some favorite Kristen Wiig SNL moments

So...I know you are all so sick of me talking about my new york trip but you know, sometimes, I just get so freeeeakin' excited and I can't contain it... (if you have no idea what I'm quoting, you need to watch the clip below) I'd like to dedicate this post to one of my favorite ladies, Kristen Wiig. She is hilarious and I love her to death. She makes any sketch just 10x funnier. I can't get enough of all of her weird characters on SNL. I love that she is fully committed. If you throw her in front of the meanest, most serious, uninterested crowd, she will no doubt bring the magic and have them laughing by the end of the night. I'm talking about dedication to her characters, people. This woman will put on any ridiculous outfit and persona to bring these characters to life. She is not trying to be sexy or look hot or even stoop to making "sex" jokes. Just look at the target lady sketch. The bowl cut is just hideously amazing!

Kristen Wiig

It's funny... when I was in first grade it was sharing time in our class and most kids would say what their dream occupation was and everyone said, "doctor", "lawyer"...."a teacher" or the classic "a princess". I got up and nervously said, "I wanna be a comedian...." No one even knew what that word even meant. They all thought I was a weirdo anyway. I didn't end up becoming a comedian but I studied theatre throughout college and was part of an improv group. Making people laugh is the best feeling in the world and I have a huge amount of respect for comedians. They have to come up with so many clever ways to make you laugh. My all time favorite is Lucille Ball and Carol Burnett. If you are in need of a smile today, watch this clip below or go watch your favorite funny movie!

Pamela Love

I have been a long time fan of jewelry designer, Pamela Love. I love her boho-edgy style. Her long dark wavy hair and all her long flowy dresses make her almost seem like Stevie Nicks evil twin sister. Here photos that were posted by the lovely Coveteur blog. My favorite photo is her inspiration board. I love that she doesn't limit herself to just the obvious inspirations of music and movies but through nature, biology, chemistry, botany, archeology, astronomy, and medicine.
It almost seems like she creates this other world. I love it.

Anyway, I hope you are all enjoying your Tuesday!

Classic Series: Leila Peterson

leila title idea4

This week's classic series is on my friend, Leila Peterson. She is an amazing photographer and runs her own wedding photography business. I met Leila years and years ago through mutual friends back when we both lived in Hawaii. She and I have very similar tastes and I always laugh because we end up having the same exact things. I'm especially excited this week to showcase her classic 5 pieces because I had asked her to take her own photos so I could brag how amazing her work is :) There's always something so peaceful and calming in her photography that always takes me back to my days in Hawaii. Hawaii is such a laid back and beautiful place, which I think translates well in her work.

Here are her 5 Classic pieces:

Leila-example

1. Madewell Chambray Shirt- I wear it with everything: Dresses, tees,
tanks, shorts, jeans. I'll never get tired of it.

Striped Tee

2. Striped tops. I have them in all colors. Really love Elizabeth And
James' striped long sleeves.

Polka Dot Dress

3. Polka dot dresses. Polka dot dresses will forever remind me of
Julia Roberts in "Pretty Woman". I remember searching everywhere for a
brown and white polka dot dress when I was little.

Polka Dot Dress

Black Flats

4. Ballerina flats- I wear them everywhere. They're so simple, and I
love simple.

Ray Bans

5. Wayfarers. I keep buying new sunglasses but always come back to
these. My dad gave me this one, it was his from the 80's. I also have a black pair.

a dance for one...

Lover Label
Lover Label

Such a beautiful video. I know there's so much hype on ballet since Black Swan but I've always had a soft spot for ballet. My friend studied ballet growing up and I saw her struggle a lot because of how strenuous ballet really is so, I appreciate it and I respect an art form that takes so much dedication and commitment.

Lover's line is so airy and dreamy mixed in with practical comfortable pieces, so perfect for these elegant dancers.

Go peep the rest of their collection HERE.

Sabrina

A lil spring outfit inspiration. Been sick in bed the past few days and I've been an old hollywood kick lately as far as movies go. So, why not re watch all my favorite Audrey Hepburn movies? I particularly like this scene from Sabrina because it shows both characters idea of love. Then how its proven so wrong by the end of the movie... They just don't make movie stars like they used to. Humphrey Bogart is so handsome and distinguished. *sigh*
Do you have any favorite old movies? I'd love to hear about them.

The Classic Series: CAYLA

00 Title

For this week's Classic Series, I decided to ask my friend, Cayla. She and I met about 3 years ago through Brandon, her boyfriend & bassist of Rooney. After many bottles of Pinot Grigio, nights spent talking by fire pits, and our mutual endearment for Aretha Franklin, we've become great friends. After starting this series I decided she'd be a perfect fit for it. What can be more classic than solid colors, flattering fits, flats and complimentary accessories? I mean, it just screams CLASSIC!
Cayla's got a really clean and natural style and I think it's something that everyone can relate to whether you're buying your clothes from Madewell or you're sifting through the racks at Goodwill.

We met up with her at her Los Angeles loft to discuss her top 5 wardrobe classics. When it came to taking the photos, we decided that taking them at her home would best represent her and her style.

Here are her 5 Classics:

01-Solid Basics

1. SOLIDS: I like the boldness and simplicity of solids. I'm a white tee girl through and through.

02-1 Skinny Jeans

2. SKINNY JEANS: Can't live without 'em.

02-2 Skinny Jeans

03-DIY TEE

3. DIY: Why do people wear shirts with labels they aren't creatively connected to?

Cayla belongs to a creative VJ group called COLLABO and they made these shirts for a huge show that they were a part of. It's special because its something she's part of creatively and she still wears it all the time. It's got history which is what Cayla loves.

04-DIY-FIDLAR

Cayla lives in a loft space with musicians and it came with its own studio live room for recording music. I'd imagine its pretty convenient for them to just go in there and jam whenever they want since its sound proof. My brother lives there so I go in there from time to time to see how they have it set up because its totally different every single time. They screen printed the wall paper which I think fits into Cayla's whole DIY style.

04-INHERITED & GIFTED JEWELRY

4. INHERITED & GIFTED JEWELRY: A ring from my grandmother, stamped earrings Sally brought from Morocco, a turquoise-filled coin charm made by my father, a plastic diamond ring from 7-year-old Joe Delaney, and a multi-colored chain from Kiki.
I have a good story about the plastic diamond ring. When I was a sophomore in high school, I got asked to Winter Ball by a popular guy called Brian. I begged my mom to let me get my hair and nails done, which we didn't have money for, saved up for the dress, everything! I was so excited. Brian turned out to be a horrible dinner date. Dumb as a rock. At the dance, he immediately ditched me for his ex. I was so sad and embarrassed. I tried to leave early, but a girl friend caught up to me and handed me a jewelry box from her little brother, who was only 6. She said, "I don't know, he really wanted you to have this." In the box was a note: "Hi Cayla This is from me Joe I hope you like it." I could tell by his handwriting that he was just learning to write. Under the note was a plastic gold and diamond ring. I forgot all about the lame guy who'd ruined my night and I wore that ring every day for years! It's chipped now, but I still wear it sometimes for confidence.

05-SMARTSHOES

5. SMART LITTLE SHOES: Do you ever get that sinking feeling when you see a woman on the way to work, looking smart, with her hair done, fresh faced, pretty blouse, tailored skirt, and big, lame, generic brand athletic shoes? My daily routine involves a LOT of walking, so I identify with the need for comfortable feet, and I usually wear my shoes to death, but god help me if I start wearing sensible sneakers to work. What would Janelle Monáe do?

Thanks, Cayla!!! Ryan and I had such a great time shooting her.

Secret Garden Outfit Styled by Alice Baxley inspired by Virgin Suicides and Alexa Chung Dress
Hi Lovelies,
I got a new camera lens this weekend and decided to test it out with a new outfit post. I hardly ever get in front of the camera anymore but thought it would be fun. For this shoot, I was inspired by colors from one of my favorite movies Virgin Suicides by Sofia Coppola and the classic book, The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett which I finished reading recently. I had read it back in high school many moons ago but I had forgotten how magical it is!
It was fun to pretend I was Mary in the magical garden even though it was quite muddy from the rain. Anyway, Happy Monday!
My dress is from last fall's Alexa Chung for Madewell collection, my shoes are handmade by Golden Ponies , vintage purse & floral crown made by me.

Shabd is the queen of tie dye! One day I would love to take a class from her at Lena Corwin's studo. Too bad I live on the opposite end of the US. *sigh*
