the sun will come out tomorrow....

2.15.11OUTFIT, Style, Karen Walker
Bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow there'll be sun!
A little spring outfit inspiration to kick off the new week. I know its been freezing but I have hope that it will warm up soon and when that day comes, you know I will be busting out those sandals and summer dresses!
Particularly obsessed lately with this pinky/ coral lipgloss. It makes me think of the beach for some reason and I really miss the beach.

ALEXAinOPENINGCEREMONYAlexa here wearing the coveted fox print dress from Deyrolle Pour Opening Ceremony collection. Get yours HERE.
Foxes are sly, sexy and cunning creatures. In fact, in a lot of different cultures they symbolize trickery in many folklore tales. They believe to have special magical powers. Well, Jimi Hendrix certainly knew women do to...... FOXY....FOXY LADY!!!!!!

Be Linen

BE LINEN MOVIE from Benoit MILLOT on Vimeo.

via Lena Corwin
I took a textiles class a while back and I remember learning about how different fabrics are made and produced. I loved the class so much and it truly helped me understand fabrics as a whole. From the draping and manipulating them in different ways and shapes to acheive what you, as a designer want to convey.
Here is a short on Linen I stumbled across. It shows the different stages of production to get it into fabric form.
Hope everyone had a great week. TGIF!

Karen Walker: Spring 2011

Loving the choice of prints in this Karen Walker Spring 2011 collection. Playful but sophisticated. Young but still Womanly. This is making me really excited to see the change in weather. I can finally start showing my toes perhaps. Oh and you see the sunglasses the first girl is wearing? hehe. I see that they are sold out everywhere now. I'm glad Santa got me those for Christmas.
Another trend that's been popping up like crazy everywhere is fluorescent colors. Can't believe I'm saying this but the photos below kinda make me see it in a new way and I kinda like it. Not sure if I would go out and buy a pair of those pants that Fashion Squad's Carolina Engman has on BUT you do have to admit that they look stunning on her!

So, maybe I'm not bold enough to wear fluorescent colors but, I do like this orange shown below in Karen's collection, not as bright but still very close. Never really thought of wearing that color before but perhaps its time to venture into new color territories, yes?

Ryan took me to Huntington Park for Valentines Day weekend and I had no idea how huge it really is! We barely explored half of it and we were there for at least 3 hours. There are several different areas including a cactus desert, a jungle forest with little waterfalls, a japanese bonsai garden and a chinese garden as well. It was so beautiful! I will have to put up more pictures when I go through them all. I really want to go back and take more photos and just take in all the natural beauty. To our surprise, there was a Charles Bukowski exhibit going on as well. Lots of his first editions and letters he had written and first drafts of his short books and his very own typewriter that he had used to write all the books that we all love so much. It was really cool to see all of it in person.
Sorry for the lack of posts. I have been sick the past few days and didn't feel too inspired to be on the computer. Been mostly watching horrible sappy movies on the oxygen channel hahaha. Oh well, I hope I get better soon. I am going to be starting a new internship soon that I am really excited about. I will tell you more about it later.

The Loved Ones

The Loved One Lingerie
The Loved One Lingerie
The Loved One Lingerie

As an ode to valentines day, I present to you The Loved One Lingerie line. Let's face it, not everyone is a Victoria Secret kinda girl. I like my lingerie like I like my wine, a lot of class from the past. I love that the models are voluptuous like they used to be in the 50s and 60s. Healthy in all the right places, if you ask me! I first heard of them through my friend Daniel Wing who is a friend of theirs and I finally got a chance to look at their stuff. I must say that I have fallen in love and I can't wait to see future collections.
Hailing from two opposite sides of the US, Brooklyn-based artist Hannah Metz and LA based designer/ vintage clothing advocate Elvia Lahman have done their homework and derive their inspirations from 60s girly magazines and their love for old cinema. I see great things in store from these lovely ladies.
Check out their online store. Each piece is beautiful, delicate and dreamy!
They also have a vintage online store! Check it out HERE.

Tonight kicks off Valentine's Day weekend for me. Ryan and I are celebrating early since it falls on a monday night. I'm excited to do all kinds of fun things including a trip to the Rose Bowl Flea Market and the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens. I really love living in Pasadena. *sigh*

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

Just peeped Marais' Spring 2011 collection from their blog and I must say that I want those peep toe wedges badly. Perfect height, perfect spring/summer vibe and I can see myself wearing those till they crap out. I've been shoe crazy lately, I'm not sure why. In a dream world, my shoe closet would look something like this:

Being able to actually see my shoes would be a luxury. haha. I love my little duplex but it is rather cramped in here and sometimes hard to get to my shoes. hehe.
Hope you have a lovely day! I'm off to get our taxes done tonight. Wish me luck.

Street Style Inspiration

Vanessa Jackman Street Style, girls in wide leg pants, 1970s inspirations, fall 2010
Vanessa Jackman Street Style photographer, style inspiration for fall 2010, girls in khaki trench coats, boots and earth tone neutral colors
Vanessa Jackman Street Style photographer, girls in pleated leather skirt and cape coat for fall 2010 fashion week
A few street styles that caught my eye via Vanessa Jackman. I love that the 70s are back in style! well, if you ask me, it was never out of style. ha. The wide leg pants are lovely here and adds quite a bit of relaxed vibe to the outfit. Its kind of a cheat way to sorta get away with wearing pajama type pants. Let those legs free from those tight skinny jeans. You feel me?
I also love the coats. The camel coat and the khaki trench are two essentials that every girl should have in her closet. I especially was intrigued that the camel coat is very long which will keep your legs warm and elongates you.
And the trench? I always think of Steve McQueen when I see a trench. He looks so badass in it and who doesn't want to look like this?

OH MY STONE DARLINGS

Stone Darling band from Los Angeles Mikki Itzigsohn FIDLAR the band
Hey guys,
I'm not sure why I haven't mentioned this before but my friends, Mikki and Elvis (FIDLAR) are in a band called Stone Darling based out of Los Angeles. If you're from LA, you probably have heard their name cause they play like, EVERYWHERE... and they are great! When I first met Mikki, I knew she was awesome because she was holding in her hand a 40oz of .....MICKEY! She just smiled and said, "Yeap" and the rest of the night was history.
She recently filled in for a FIDLAR show once when Brandon was gone on tour with Rooney and it was so fun seeing her up there all cute in her black mini dress playing with a bunch of dirty boys.
Anyway.... I am posting because Stone Darling is trying to raise money to finish up their EP. If you could find it in your hearts to help these lovely ladies put out their EP, I'm sure the god of rock will raise a glass to you. Every dollar counts and there is about 52 hours left of the pledge drive.
