The Sad Hatter: Isabella Blow

Isabella Blow has always stuck out to me like a sore thumb. Not only for her eccentric style but because she was confident in what she wore. Her kooky hats became one of her signature looks and as silly as they seemed, everyone anticipated what hat she would be wearing to an event. I admire her sense of confidence and wearing these pieces of art and in doing so, she was a walking advertisement for Philip Treacy whom she is credited for discovering. Isabella Blow is also credited with discovering the talent of Alexander McQueen and bought his senior collection while he was in school at Central St. Martins. Story has it, that she bought his entire collection for 5,000 pounds and he sent it to her in trash bags. haha! What an amazing story!
She was also an English magazine editor and her flamboyant style earned her international attention. To me, she is fashion. WIthout people like her, fashion would be boring! She had such a keen sense of spotting talent and not only pushed them to go out pursue their passion but she wore their creations too.
She didn't care what people thought of her, she wore what she wanted and what made her feel great. She had such a passion and love for craftsmanship and saw the beauty in fashion.
Like so many geniuses of our time, Isabella took her own life. RIP Isabella Blow. You are loved and have not only inspired me but added so much color and spice in fashion!

Style File: Zooey Deschanel Part II

I finally found the high resolution photos of the rest of this fashion editorial of Zooey Deschanel that I have been looking for a while now! Its from an issue of Lula Magazine Issue #4 . I first saw it while I was house sitting a friend's house and forgotten to scan them before I left. I really really love Lula Magazine but the not so in love with the price tag. Anyway, Yay! I am happy to have found it online. Zooey just looks so much like she is straight out of a vintage magazine. She always looks so classy, elegant, feminine and fun. My brother got to meet her and told me she is just as beautiful in person as she is in photos. I think she's one of those girls that has natural beauty and it shines through in any photo she's in!
EDIT: I was misinformed about the photos being from Lula Magazine. I think a few of them might be but someone has told me they were from a magazine that no longer exists called JANE. Anyway, either way, they are beautiful photos!
Street Style: A Lil Spring Inspiration

Some inspiration for my outfits this spring through summer. I am drawn to more of an european classic style this spring with lots of clog sandal/ boots that would go together with either a 50s summer dress or 70s inspired high waisted jeans or jean short-overalls. I love the comfortable and relax vibe and I want my outfits look like they werent trying to hard but I do not want to look sloppy either. An effortless style :) I feel there is a good balance of that in these photos. I am excited to fix my overalls and get those in rotation through my wardrobe.
Another great accessory that I would like to include this spring and summer is the use of my beach cruiser bike. Its been a while since that baby has been roaming the streets and its high time I get off my lazy butt and start using it to run errands. ;)

Erie Basin: A Gem of a Discovery

So, I did a post a while back on Erie Basin but let me just do one more because I love the store so much! All the vintage jewelry looks like they belong in a museum. There's something so special about vintage jewelry. The history and craftsmanship alone make each piece so unique! When I go back to new york I am going to have to pop my head in and marvel at all the wonderful pieces there! Oh my. My favorite is the turquoise and diamond ring. WOW. Looks very similar to Mociun's ring that I have been eyeing for some time. Hope everyone's having a great week so far!
I'm excited to be able to go to a Dodger's game tomorrow with some friends. I'll try to take some photos to post here :)

Model Corner: Lily Cole

I owe a lot of my interest in models to Danny. I remember the day we took our first road trip together, he started his character sketch books of Gemma Ward and Lily Cole. I was absolutely smitten by their beauty and his interpretations of them in his drawings. Lily Cole has got such a cool features and I really loved her in Terry Gilliam's Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassas!
If you haven't seen it, I really recommend it! I love the imagery and colors in it. It has such a dream walking society feel to it!
Also, thank you so much for the lovely comments you all have made. I have been so completely touched that you all like my blog!

A New Direction

Hey everyone,
All kinds of adjustments happening here on my blog. I have enlisted help from a friend and thought it was high time that I organized my site up a bit and tell you a little bit more about myself. I started going to school in 2005 majoring in fashion design, I was working full time and trying to go to school full time as well. It was hard but I managed to maintain on the honors roll but the economy took a toll on me and I lost my job and scholarship in the same week. It was really hard for me but I am trying to pick up the pieces, thriving on what my passion is: Fashion. I love the idea that our bodies are a canvas and that we can wake up every morning and paint it with whatever clothes we chose as a means to express ourselves! I believe personal style is such an exciting and fun way to explore yourself. Through this blog, I would like to take a journey through the many aspects of style and everything that inspires me as a fashion enthusiast, artist, designer, stylist, woman, and someone that appreciates craftsmanship.
I am excited about life and taking advantage of this time and opportunity I have to hone my craft.
The team at Igor + Andre' are the most amazing friends that have encouraged me and are showing me the ropes so for this, I am so grateful! They are a true inspiration to me.
Danny Roberts and I will be collaborating on a collection and making samples in the near future! And of course, in the meantime, you can look forward to a lot more "fun" experimental video projects.

Nina Leen: Life Magazine's Finest

Nina Leen, is such a great inspiration to me. She became one of the first women photographers for Life Magazine in 1945. She had such a way of capturing the true essence of the era and some believe helped many actors and actresses launch their careers. During her time at Life Magazine, she produced over 40 magazine covers and her pictures were often found in most magazines around the world! Hope this post takes you back to the 1950s. Thank you, Christian Dior for such an elegant silhouette style!

Love these Photos by Romina Shama Looks like it was taken in a run down victorian house. Old houses are my favorite! They have so much history and character to them. I currently live in a duplex that is built in the 1920s. We have a breakfast nook with bench seats that fold out of the walls! I think its such a clever idea that saves so much space too. It just reminds me that people lived so simple and also encourages me to stay in that state of mind. Simple.
I also love these images because most of them are not clear shots of the model but you can still see beauty in her.
There is also a video at the bottom that the same photographer also shot. It features Astrid Berges Frisbey, a french actress who is rumored to play the alluring mermaid in Pirates of the Carribean 4. How cute is she? And the lovely white dresses. I WANT. hehe.

Model Corner: Frida Gustavsson

Happy Monday everyone! Hope your weekend was relaxing. I got to go to disneyland and clean out our garage and made it into an office/ sewing station/ hang out summer area. We set up two tvs with 4 different video game systems (all very old like super nintendo and xbox) and a dvd player also. We are calling it the BAX CAVE haha. I am so ready for the summer hangouts to begin. I'm a bit sad that one of our really good friends, Brandon will be gone on tour with Rooney this summer but I'm happy that he gets to travel and play with a good band. If you've never seen Rooney, you should try to catch one of their shows this summer. Dates are up on their website.
Anyone else have any exciting plans this summer? I am planning a trip to hawaii with my best friend!
Anyway.....
Stumbled upon this editorial from the new June 2010 Vogue Nippon while I was in search for the perfect straw summer hat. I was so excited to see that Frida was the model and I must say that I love the spring vibe in this shoot. I love japanese fashion magazines and Vogue Nippon has some of my favorite editorials next to Vogue Italia.
